Choosing our local charity for 2020

Since we opened our doors we have always tried to work with the local community and every year we take time out of our lettings business in order to raise funds for a local charity. This year we have a shortlist of 4 local Charities and we asked for votes to choose the one we work with during 2020.

The list was

Voting closed on 5 December 2019, and Caring Together were selected as our Charity of the year.

Caring Together

Becoming a carer can happen to anyone at any point in their life. Three in five of us will be a carer at some point. It is often not a role that we choose, and it can turn lives upside down in a heartbeat. When it happens, Caring Together is here to provide information and advice, run services in our local communities and campaign so that carers have choices. With your support, we make sure that over 12,000 carers every year get the practical help that matters. Together we can help even more carers in Cambridgeshire.

Dreamdrops - Huntingdonshire Children’s Charity

Dreamdrops – Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust’s Children’s Charity, makes a real difference to children and families who use hospital or specialist children’s health facilities.

Dreamdrops was set up with the aim of raising money to buy all those little (and large) extras that are not covered by NHS public funds but which make a hospital stay more comfortable – or less stressful – for children and their families. The charity’s work doesn’t just stop at the hospital door, as funds are also used to help sick children who are being cared for at home. Dreamdrops aims to make life a little easier when it can be at its most stressful. From high-tech 3-D machines to take children’s minds off their treatment, to portable monitors that can make the difference between a child being allowed go home with mum and dad, or spend another night on a hospital ward.

East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH)

At East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), we care for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk and support their families. Our family-centred approach includes specialist nursing care, symptom management nursing, short breaks, wellbeing activities, therapies, counselling and volunteer services in the family home; all meeting the individual needs of the child, young person and whole family.

Our hospices aren’t just about the end of life care; they’re often very happy and fun places, where young people can live life to their full potential. In our Milton hospice (just outside of Cambridge), we are currently supporting 224 children, young people and family members. For families accessing care and those who have been bereaved, EACH is a lifeline at an unimaginably difficult time. When time is short, we help families make the most of their precious time together and create memories that last forever. This support is only made possible through the support of our local community, and we would be so grateful if Maxine Lester’s customers would vote for us so that we can provide more care to local life-threatened children.”
