When we started our business we committed to invest at least 1% of our profits in charitable activities. We are pleased to say we have consistently done that every year, donating over £56,000 to charity so far, plus a further £32,000 either through fundraising or other support. In total that is over £88,000. In 2022 our fundraising equated to 1.2% of our income.
Our Charity of the year is Caring Together.
Becoming a carer can happen to anyone at any point in their life. Three in five of us will be a carer at some point. It is often not a role that we choose, and it can turn lives upside down in a heartbeat. When it happens, Caring Together is here to provide information and advice, run services in our local communities and campaign so that carers have choices. They need our support to ensure over 12,000 carers every year get the practical help that matters.
We also support our community more generally:
We actively supply work experience placements to help people get a foothold on the employment ladder. We do not use these people to supplement our staff, but ensure they have meaningful work which they feel is relevant.
Our staff all get paid for 2 days a year to do work for, or in support of charity.
We are constantly alert to opportunities to help those around us.
If you think we may be able to help you or your organisation then please get in touch.
In 2020 and 2021 the impact of COVID pandemic had hit carers harder than most. We decided to run campaigns to raise money so carers could have a Christmas dinner or Christmas treat. We raised nearly £6,090 so all the families identifed by our charity, Caring Together, could get what was needed. There was also some left over to arrange some much needed summer activities.
Please see a video of our hamper campaign here
Over 2016 and 2017 the team focused all their fundraising efforts on securing enough money for Carers Trust Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and Norfolk to arrange for at least 10 young carers to get a much needed break. There were all sorts of events, culminating in Mattie doing the Agents Strictly Come Dancing competition in December 2017. See the video and read more here.
As part of our support for our chosen charity Carers Trust Cambridgeshire, in 2016 we raised funds to buy Christmas turkeys for 37 families with carers. We know the Carers Trust support many families who experience a whole range of difficulties, so the gift of festive food is greatly appreciated to help make their Christmas special.
Our landlords, tenants and friends generously helped us raise over £800 for this appeal, marvellous, thank you!
